In pursuance of its mandate to promote dialogue on key issues facing the forestry sector in general and participatory forestry in particular, RUPFOR conducts a discussion series. The first discussion was held on 2 nd April, 2002 in the Winrock office premises.

RUPFOR Discussion series #1- " Biodiversity in Commerce ",-2/4/2002
This discussion explored the biological sustainability of forest product extraction and the research needs in this area were discussed. The topic was introduced through a presentation of findings of a pilot study undertaken in West Bengal by Dr. Ghazala Shahabuddin, who conducted this study with Winrock's support. Dr. Shahabuddin holds a doctorate in Ecology and Conservation Biology from Duke University , USA .

RUPFOR Discussion Series # 2 - "Role of Panchayati Raj Institutions in JFM: A Legal Review”-10/9/2002
The second discussion in the series was on the topic Role of Panchayati Raj Institutions in JFM: A Legal Review. The topic was introduced through a presentation of findings of a study undertaken by Mr. Sanjay Upadhyay and Mr. Videh Upadhyay of Enviro-Legal Defence Firm. Both the authors hold degrees in Law and have worked extensively on environmental law related issues.

RUPFOR Discussion Series # 3 - " Government of India 's policy regarding encroachments on forest lands" ,-11/15/2002
This third discussion in the series was initiated with a presentation by Dr. V.K. Bahuguna (Ex- Inspector General of Forests, Ministry of Environment and Forests) on the issue of encroachment of forest lands and Government of India's policy in this regard. Dr. Bahuguna headed the Forest Conservation Division in the Ministry. Mr. M. K. Sharma, Ex- Director General of Forests, chaired the session.

Film screening-Dance with hands held tight-2/9/2005
A film was screened on women’s livelihoods and natural resources “Dance with hands held tight”.
